A graduation degree in any subject opens a large share of government jobs in India. The main difference between degrees is which specialised posts you can add on top. This guide lists the main recruiters and who each one is for.

Open to graduates of any stream

    • SSC (Staff Selection Commission): graduate-level exams such as CGL fill posts in central ministries and departments (assistants, inspectors, auditors and similar). Official site: ssc.gov.in.
    • UPSC (Union Public Service Commission): the Civil Services Examination and several other exams for senior central posts. Official site: upsc.gov.in.
    • Banks: IBPS runs common exams for many public sector banks (Probationary Officer, Clerk, Specialist Officer); SBI recruits through its own exams. Official sites: ibps.in and the SBI careers page.
    • Railways: Railway Recruitment Boards run graduate-level exams (for example NTPC graduate posts).
    • State Public Service Commissions: every state has its own PSC (such as BPSC, UPPSC, MPSC) for state administrative and other posts, often requiring knowledge of the state language.
    • Insurance and financial bodies: LIC, public insurance companies, NABARD and RBI recruit graduates for officer and assistant posts.

    How to choose

    1. Pick two or three exam families that match your degree and interest; preparing for everything at once rarely works.
    2. Check age limits now: some exams have strict upper limits.
    3. Follow the official sites, or our Sarkari jobs and Bank jobs pages, so you never miss a last date.

Rules change between recruitments: the official notification always wins over this guide.
